George Russell Apologises After Emotional Canadian GP DNF

Following his dramatic retirement from the lead at the Canadian Grand Prix, George Russell reacted emotionally to the incident. The British driver admitted he was “lost for words” after suffering a power unit failure, particularly given the intense and highly entertaining battle he had been enjoying with Kimi Antonelli, which he believed could have continued for many more laps.

Despite the disappointment, the Mercedes driver stated that he remained proud of his overall weekend in Montreal. Russell secured sprint pole position, claimed victory in the sprint race, started the Grand Prix from pole position and led the race before his retirement.

Following the incident in which he threw the headrest onto the circuit after climbing out of the car, Russell apologised to the stewards, admitting that he had allowed his emotions to get the better of him and had set a poor example. As a result, the driver received a suspended €5,000 fine for a period of 12 months.
